Footprint Profile : Centres, Orphanages and Schools we work with in Vietnam
Malnourished Baby Orphanages - Da Nang
Malnourished baby orphanage is one of the nicest orphanages I have visited, the staff who run adn work their all really care for the children and the whole orphanage has a 'family' feel about it. The orphanage is very small and is split into two sections via two rooms. The first houses babies from newborn until about two years old. They then, if they are still at the orphanage gradate to the older childrens room where the children can stay until about seven years old. Although we do have three children who have been at the centre for years who are older than this. This is due to the fact that they all have cerebal palsy and other physial disabilities.
The number of children who live at this orphanage varies but on average it is between 15 - 2 children.

Social Supprting Centre - Da Nang
Social Support was a goverment plan in 2000 'clean up' the streets of da nang. What they did was built the social support buildings on the outskirts of town at the bottom of the mountains and then collected up and homeless , disabled people from the centre of town.
At social support their are now about 200 residents from one day old to over eighty years old. The centre has a babies room ( like a mini orphanage) and a disabled childrens room. Although the children in this area suffer from a varity of learning difficulties as apose to physical disabilities, including autism and aspergers. Unfortunately some of these children had been kept in poor living conditions as the women who cared for them don't have any understanding of the appropriate care for these children. Luckily since the Global Volunteer Network has started working their they have been aboe to make a lot of improvements thrugh undraiding for new housing and working with the children with a physio.
Red Cross Vocational Training Centre
The Red Cross centre, is both a training centre and a day centre for children who live on the border between hoi an and Da Nang, it is situated on the coast near Vietnams famous marble mountains. The centre has about 40 children attending every day. The centre is trying to train some of the older children on a vocational skill that they can then go on to find employment with. They also have english lessons which are taught by the volunteers working in Da Nang.
As a way of raising funding they children have produced christmas gards and greeting cards aswell as hand embroidered pictures to sell to local tourists.
AV02 -Agent Orange Day Centre and Baby Orphanage
This is a day centre that is funded by the american organisation AVA, Their are about 25 children who attend during the day who suffer from agent orange related disabilities, tor ead more about agent orange and its effects on the children and adults in vietnam click here!
The children arrive in the morning and take part in activities and crafts while their parents are at work. Most of these children suffer from dsabiities that mean thye can not attend regular schooling.
Upstairs their is now a baby orphanage that has about 30 children under the age of one and a half years old.
